Section I: Rights & Freedoms

1. As citizens of this democratic community, we agree to the following rights & freedoms:

   1. Equal opportunity to share our ideas and opinions and to ask questions (without fear of teasing and/or put-downs)

   2. To have a safe, calm, and quiet space where we can learn and complete our work

   3. To remain silent when needed

   4. To have access to safe personal spaces for our belongings

   5. To personal safety (free from physical, verbal, or emotional abuse from peers and adults)

   6. To eat (snack & lunch breaks) and drink throughout the day

   7. To move & take breaks (flexible seating, recess breaks, P.E., fresh air, physical activity, stretches, brain breaks, etc.)

   8. To enjoy school

   9. To fix our mistakes and get second chances

   10. To be ourselves (without fear of teasing and/or put-downs)

Section II: Responsibilities

1. As citizens of this democratic community, we agree to the following responsibilities:

   1. To raise our hand and wait patiently for our turn to share

   2. To listen openly to others’ ideas and not interrupt or put-down others’ ideas when they are sharing

   3. To work quietly and find a quiet choice when we are done our assigned work, so that others’ may also have a quiet space to complete their work

   4. To ask for help when we need it

   5. To be honest and take responsibility for our own actions

   6. To treat everyone with kindness and respect at all times

   7. To respect others’ personal spaces and belongings by KEEPING OUT!

   8. To fully participate and put forth our best effort

   9. To remove ourselves from unsafe or inappropriate situations 

   10. To tell others when they have hurt or upset us so that they can apologize and change their behaviour

   11. To listen to and apologize/change our own behaviour when we have hurt or upset others

   12. To stand up for others’ when they are being mistreated

   13. To stand up when others are making poor choices
